Modern Leaders Tip of the Week

October is the season of harvest and change - a time to gather the fruits of our labor, reflect on the wins and plant seeds for the future.  But with everything moving at a relentless pace, how do you pause, find the wins in the chaos, and know where you're headed next?

We're in Q4 now, and while many wait until December to start planning for the next steps in their careers and lives, you don't have to!  The clarity and mometum you build now will set you up for a powerful 2025.  This month, we will focus on how to uncover the wins hidden in the daily grind, set our direction, and make strategic moves before the year ends.

Here are some starter questions to journal about this week.  Take just 15 minutes reflect and document your thoughts.

1.) Reflect on What's Working

You are busy and it's easy to lose sight of progress.  Take time this month to reflect on what has gone well.  Reflecting and being aware of what is working, especially the small wins, will help you progress faster as you move forward to your next goal.  Ask yourself:

  • What small wins or big wins can I acknowledge?
  • Where have I demonstrated growth, even in tough times? (BIG ONE to be aware of)
  • What strengths have I leaned on?

This intentional reflection will also remind you that success doesn't always come in leaps, but in steady, consistent strides.

2.) Define What Matters Most

As we head into the final stretch of 2024, it's important to know where you're headed in 2025.  Make sure you are building your future, no one else's.  Defining what matters most to you - personally and professionally - becomes your compass.  Ask yourself:

  • What are my non-negotiables right now?
  • What goals do I want to end the year strong with?
  • Am I focusing on what's important each day, or just staying busy?

Clarity now ensures you don't scramble in December to set your direction.  We will help you this month get proactive on what you are building, and you'll be ahead of the game.

3.) Shift from Hustle to Momentum

The pressure to do more can make it feel like you're stuck in hustle mode.  But succcess comes from strategic momentum, I can promise you the most successful leaders are not hustling more, they are more strategic and you can be too.

  • What's one area where I can build on my current mometum?
  • How can I streamline my focus to make progress in key areas?
  • What does success look like for me this month and how will I measure it?

With the right focus, you'll enter 2025 already ahead.

As you gather your wins, don't forget to celebrate them!  Recognizing the journey is just as important as focusing on the destination.  Celebrating your wins creates energy for the next challenge.

Don't wait until December to think about what's next.  Now is the time to harvest your wins and set the direction for an even greater year ahead.

Success does leave clues and we are going to share with you next week how you can take your success clues and turn them into your own superpower to define and advance your goals.  With this mindset, you can thrive in the chaos, find purpose in your progress, and position yourself for a strong start to 2025.

Here's to your first October harvest, finishing 2024 strong, and setting up for your best year yet.

Wellness Tip of the Week
How to Avoid the Back-to-School Cold

It seems we all get sick this time of year, whether we have kids in school or not.  The change in schedules from summer to fall means more time indoors and the inevitable passing of germs.  To be your best self it's vital that we maintain our health.  When we feel well, we do well.  It may seem like common sense, but a little refresher from time to time can make all the difference! Whether you're looking to protect your family, or even just pick-up some valuable habits before the cooler months, enjoy our good hygiene practices and lifestyle choice strategies:

1.) Practice good hand hygiene:

  •  Wash your hands regulary with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the bathroom, before eating, and after being in public places.
  • Keep hand sanitizer (with at least 60% alcohol) handy when soap and water arenโ€™t available.

2.) Avoid touching your face:

  • Try not to touch your eyes, nose, or mouth, as this can transfer germs from your hands.

3.) Keep surfaces clean:

  • Disinfect frequently touched surfaces.  Regularly clean doorknobs, light switches, and shared electronics like tablets and remotes with disinfecting wipes or sprays.

4.) Maintain a healthy diet:

  • Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins to support your immune system.

5.) Stay hydrated:

  • Staying hydrated helps your body function optimally and supports overall health.

6.) Prioritize sleep:

  •  Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep per night to keep your immune system strong.

7.) Manage your stress:

  • Practice stress-relief techniques like meditation, yoga, or deep breathing, as chronic stress can weaken your immune system.

8.) Stay active:

  • Regular physical activity can boost your immune function and overall health.

9.) Avoid sharing personal items:

  • Refrain from sharing drinks, utensils, and personal items

10.) Teach hygiene to the whole family:

  • Educate your family on good hygiene practices.  By incorporating these actions at a young age, they easily become part of the daily routine.

At some point, the business needs you to lead differently than what got you here.
When I stepped into the President role, I thought I understood what the responsibility would require. I had spent years inside the business, starting as a retail and marketing specialist and growing through multiple leadership roles to SVP. I knew how the business worked. I knew the people. I knew how to carry responsibility. What I hadnโ€™t fully grasped was how much I would need to change. The ...
A quick note about the Pulse
I want to share something with you about this space, about The Pulse. In a world where Iโ€™m constantly told to write shorter captions, be more edgy, create more scroll-stopping hooks, and chase attention on social mediaโ€ฆthis is not that space. And thatโ€™s intentional. I believe part of whatโ€™s happening in our businesses and on our teams right now is that weโ€™re losing perspective in all the noise....
