Unleashing Your Superpowers

Building the Right Goals for 2025

As we approach the end of 2024, now is the time to focus on building a future that truly aligns with who you are and what you want. The goals you set for 2025 should reflect not only what you aim to achieve but also your unique superpowers—your natural strengths—and your non-negotiables, the things you’re not willing to compromise on.

1.) Clarify - What Matters Most

The first step to setting meaningful goals is understanding what’s most important to you. This goes beyond what looks good on paper or what others expect of you. Your goals should align with your values, desires, and the vision you have for your future self.

Action Step: Take 15 minutes to reflect on the past year. Write down the 3 things you’re most proud of, personally and professionally. What do these accomplishments say about your values? What themes stand out? Use this as a foundation for your goals in 2025.

2.) Define Your Non-Negotiables

Before setting any goals, it’s essential to clarify your non-negotiables—the aspects of your life that are too important to overlook. These might include family time, your health, or a specific work-life balance. Knowing both what you want and what you don’t want ensures that the goals you set for 2025 respect your boundaries and values. It’s the key to building a life that’s both fulfilling and sustainable.

Action Step: Take a moment to list 3-5 non-negotiables for 2025. Think about the things you cannot compromise on—whether it’s personal time, professional autonomy, or creative freedom. These non-negotiables will help you shape goals that serve both your ambitions and your core values.

3.) Set Goals Aligned with Your Superpowers
Once you’ve identified your non-negotiables and gained clarity, it’s time to unleash your superpowers. These are the unique strengths that have guided your progress and brought you success in the past. When your goals are aligned with your natural abilities, you focus on developing them more intentionally, you’ll find that not only do you achieve more, but you enjoy the process even more.

Action Step: Pick one of your superpowers (see our newsletter last week if you missed the exercise on this) and brainstorm how you can use it to achieve a major goal in 2025. For example, if your superpower is connecting people, set a goal to grow a network that opens new opportunities for yourself and others. You may find that one relationship that opens a big door by adding value to others. The key is to create goals that tap into your strengths so that progress feels natural and energizing.

By taking the time for these quick exercises, defining your non-negotiables, gaining clarity, and setting goals that align with your superpowers, you’re building a future that reflects what’s most important to you.  Build the future that aligns with you and who you want to become.  Next week we will talk about how to keep momentum going once you set these goals.

Here’s to using your superpowers to create your most aligned and fulfilling year yet!

The Benefits of Practicing Gratitude

Incorporating gratitude into your daily life can lead to lasting changes in your outlook and emotional state. Whether it's through journaling, expressing thanks, or simply reflecting on what you appreciate, the practice can profoundly impact your well-being.  In our daily grind, it can often be challenging to recognize what we are grateful for.  By instilling these practices in your routine, you're one step closer to recognizing all the good in your life and experiencing a shift in the way you think.  You'll find yourself relishing in all things good and spending less time worrying about what may not be going according to plan.  It's important to practice what works for you and your daily routine.  If the application isn't sustainable, you could experience adverse reactions.

1.) Gratitude Journaling

Write down things you're thankful for each day.  This could be specific events, people, or even small moments of joy.

2.) Daily Reflections

Take a few moments each day to reflect on what you're grateful for.  This can be done in the morning or before bed.

3.) Expressing Thanks

Share your gratitude with others.  This could be through verbal acknowledgements, thank-you notes, or small acts of kindness.

4.) Mindful Appreciation

During your day, pause to notice and appreciate the little things, such as a beautiful sunset, a kind gesture, or a momet of laughter.

5. ) Gratitude Rituals

Incorporate gratitude into your routines, like sharing something you're grateful for during family meals or team meetings.

6.) Visual Reminders

Use sticky notes, vision boards, or digital reminders to prompt you to think about what you're grateful for.

7. ) Gratitude Challenges

Participate in or create a challenge where you focus on gratitude for a set period, encouraging consistent practice.

8.) Reframing Challenges

When faced with difficulties, try to find something positive or a lesson learned from the experience, fostering a grateful perspective.

9.) Acts of Kindness

Engage in acts of kindess towards others as a way to express gratitude for what you have and spread positivity.  By incorporating these practices into your life, you can cultivate a more grateful mindset, enhancing your overall well-being and fostering a positive outlook.

What's New @ Modwellship

We all know how tricky it can be to cook a nice meal during the week.  That's why I'm such a big fan of prepping something once and utilizing it twice.  Right now, squash is in season.  From acorn, to butternut to pumpkin, roasted squash can create such a nice side to any protein for a weeknight dinner.  The even better thing?  You can take that very same roasted squash and turn it into a beautiful pureed soup later in the week.  Here's some basic tips & tricks to make the most out of your weeknight meals.

Roasting Squash:

  • Pre-heat your oven to 400F.  Place your baking sheet in the oven while it's pre-heating.  Think of this step as the equivalent of searing something in a frying pan.  Once the squash makes contact with the hot baking sheet, the sugars will begin to caramelize.

  • Toss your squash in olive, salt and pepper.

  • Don't overcrowd your pan!  When you overcrowd a baking sheet, you actually end up steaming your ingredients.  As moisture is released from the squash in the oven, it can create a soggy finish rather than a caramelized one.  It is important to evenly lay everything out in one single layer.

  • Cut your squash in uniform pieces so that everything cooks at approximately the same time.

  • Roast for approximately 25 minutes, stirring halfway through and rotating the pan so everything has even and consistent heat.

Squash Puree:

  • Take all that leftover squash from earlier in the week and use it for a puree!

  • Saute onions and garlic until transluent and throw in your leftover squash.   You can supplement with frozen squash or potatoes if you wish.

  • Simmer the squash in vegetable or chicken broth for additional flavor.  Puree until smooth.

  • Finish the puree with cream, milk, or coconut milk.

  • Garnish your puree with homemade croutons, crispy leeks, or truffle oil.

At some point, the business needs you to lead differently than what got you here.
When I stepped into the President role, I thought I understood what the responsibility would require. I had spent years inside the business, starting as a retail and marketing specialist and growing through multiple leadership roles to SVP. I knew how the business worked. I knew the people. I knew how to carry responsibility. What I hadn’t fully grasped was how much I would need to change. The ...
A quick note about the Pulse
I want to share something with you about this space, about The Pulse. In a world where I’m constantly told to write shorter captions, be more edgy, create more scroll-stopping hooks, and chase attention on social media…this is not that space. And that’s intentional. I believe part of what’s happening in our businesses and on our teams right now is that we’re losing perspective in all the noise....
When Leadership Feels Full: How Modern Leaders Choose What Matters Most
Hi friends, It's only two full weeks into the new year, and for many people, things already feel full. Some of that fullness is exciting and motivating.New ideas. Momentum.  Building what's next. And some of it feels like you never quite get to put things down. Not busy in the "wow, I'm getting so much done" way, but full in the too many things pulling at you at once way. The kind of full where...
