How to Build Trust and Unlock Potential: The Power of 1:1's

Today's businesses require a different kind of leader - a modern leader.  One who doesn't just manage but inspires, challenges the status quo, and builds teams that thrive in this fast paced world.

We are on a mission to help businesses and leaders break free from outdated leadership models, advance results, and create lasting impact - one leader at a time.

But here's the truth: Your effectiveness as a leader starts with YOU.

When you feel aligned and energized, leading becomes lighter.  Your conversations shift from managing tasks to developing people.  And when that happens?  Your team, your business, and your own leadership potential will reach new levels.

So, What Makes a 1:1 Transformational Instead of Transactional?

I love The Coaching Habit by Michael Bungay Stanier because it reminds us that the best leaders coach more, tell less, and empower always.

Here's how to shift your 1:1's from a status update to a game-changing conversation:

✅Start with YOU: How are you showing up?  Are you centered and ready to engage?  Your energy sets the tone.

✅Make it THEIR agenda: Ask: What's on your mind?  (This keeps it relevant and meaningful.)

✅Dig deeper.  Instead of jumping to solutions, ask: What's the real challenge here for you? (Help them uncover what truly matters.)

✅Shift from directing to developing.  Try: What's the next step you're thinking about?  (Encourage ownership.)

Why This Matters More Than Ever

Your team doesn't just need a north start although that vision piece is super important - they need a leader who is fully present, engaged, and creating a space for them to grow.  When leaders get this right, engagement soars, performance improves, and leadership becomes less about constant firefighting and more about real impact.  It is a compound effect.

This week's challenge:

Before your next 1:1 or simply greeting your team for the day, take 5 minutes to check in with yourself first.  How are you showing up?  Then, shift the conversation from a task check-in to a trust-building moment.

⭐Are you ready to step into modern leadership?  We can help you get there.  Join the Collective, hit reply and we'll share more!

Know Your Numbers - The Key to Heart Health

When it comes to your heart, knowledge truly is power.  This week, we're focusing on understanding your heart health metrics - essential numbers that can help you take charge of your well-being and protect your heart for years to come.

Why "Know Your Numbers" Matters

Your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar are not just random numbers - they're vital indicators of your heart health.  Regular screenings help you stay ahead of potential issues, enabling you to take proactive steps before problems arise.

Here's a quick breakdown of the key metrics and what they mean for your heart:

1. Blood Pressure:
Blood pressure is a measure of the force of blood against your artery walls. High blood pressure, or hypertension, can lead to heart disease and stroke if left untreated. A normal blood pressure reading is usually around 120/80 mmHg. Anything above that may warrant a closer look and lifestyle adjustments, such as diet and exercise.

2. Cholesterol Levels:
Cholesterol is a fatty substance in your blood that can build up in the arteries, increasing your risk of heart disease. It’s important to monitor both your “good” HDL cholesterol and “bad” LDL cholesterol. Ideally, your LDL should be below 100 mg/dL, and your HDL should be above 40-50 mg/dL for optimal heart health.

3. Blood Sugar:
High blood sugar can be a sign of diabetes or prediabetes, which are both major risk factors for heart disease. Having regular blood sugar checks will help you understand whether you’re at risk and allow you to make changes to your lifestyle, such as improving your diet or increasing physical activity.

The Power of Regular Health Screenings
Scheduling regular health screenings is the best way to stay on top of these key numbers. If you’re not sure when to get screened, consult your healthcare provider for personalized recommendations. For most adults, annual screenings are a good starting point.

What You Can Do
Taking control of your numbers means making healthy choices every day. Here's how you can improve these metrics:

  • Stay Active: Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week. Physical activity helps control blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, and stabilize blood sugar levels.
  • Eat a Heart-Healthy Diet: A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats can help lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
  • Manage Stress: Chronic stress can raise blood pressure and contribute to unhealthy behaviors like overeating. Find relaxation techniques that work for you, whether it’s yoga, meditation, or simply taking a few moments to breathe deeply.
  • Limit Alcohol & Tobacco: Both smoking and excessive alcohol consumption are risk factors for heart disease. Quitting smoking and moderating alcohol intake can improve your heart health significantly.

Track Your Progress
Keeping a personal health journal can help you track your numbers and progress. Many people also find it helpful to use digital tools like apps or wearable devices to monitor their health metrics in real time. This ongoing tracking will help you stay motivated and informed about how your actions are affecting your heart health.

Your Next Step
This week, make it a priority to know your numbers. Schedule a check-up with your doctor and get your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels tested. From there, take action based on the results to improve your heart health.

Remember, your heart is the center of your well-being. By understanding and monitoring your health metrics, you’re taking an active role in protecting it for the long haul.

Let’s keep those numbers in check and continue building a healthy heart for life!

At some point, the business needs you to lead differently than what got you here.
When I stepped into the President role, I thought I understood what the responsibility would require. I had spent years inside the business, starting as a retail and marketing specialist and growing through multiple leadership roles to SVP. I knew how the business worked. I knew the people. I knew how to carry responsibility. What I hadn’t fully grasped was how much I would need to change. The ...
A quick note about the Pulse
I want to share something with you about this space, about The Pulse. In a world where I’m constantly told to write shorter captions, be more edgy, create more scroll-stopping hooks, and chase attention on social media…this is not that space. And that’s intentional. I believe part of what’s happening in our businesses and on our teams right now is that we’re losing perspective in all the noise....
