Today is Mother’s Day - a moment that invites us to pause and reflect on what truly matters.

And it reminded me why we do this work.

Because we’re building businesses and leading teams…
But far too often, it comes at the cost of our energy, health, and joy.

And days like today?
They’re a powerful reminder:
Success means nothing if we’re too depleted to enjoy what we’re working so hard for.

Last week, during my re-certification in high-performance coaching, one stat stood out and stopped me:

👉 People previously categorized as high performers or high achievers are now experiencing a 12–18% decline in performance. (Plus, productivity overall has declided steadily over the past 4 years.)

Not because they’ve stopped caring.
Not because they’re no longer capable.
But because they’re drained.
Disconnected.
Out of alignment.

I’ve seen it firsthand-
In my years as an executive.
In the leaders and business owners I work with every day.

And here’s the thing:
It doesn’t always show up as burnout.

Sometimes it looks like:
✔️ Going through the motions
✔️ Working harder, but getting less done
✔️ Feeling off, even when everything “looks” fine

And the ripple effect?
It touches everything - our work, our teams, and the people we love most.

A Reflection for All Who Nurture

Today we celebrate Mother's Day - a time to honor the people who nurture, guide, and sustain us.  While traditionally rooted in maternal appreciation, it's also a moment to recognize the broader spectrum of caregiving: parents, guardians, chosen family, community caregivers, and anyone who shows up in quiet, essential ways.

At Modwellship, we believe wellness begins with care - for ourselves, each other, and the spaces we shape together.  Caregiving is a radical act of love, but it's also work - often invisible, often unpaid, often undervalued.  Today, we name it.  We celebrate it.  And we invite you to reflect with us.

Here are a few mindful practices to honor caregivers this week:

  • Pause and Acknowledge: Take a few moments to recognize the caretakers in your life - past and present.  A message, a memory, a simple thank you can ripple more than you know.
  • Offer Without Expectation: Acts of service - a meal, a break, a listening ear - can be a gift to someone who gives tirelessly.
  • Care for the Carer: If you are a caregiver, remember: tending to your own well-being isn't selfish, it's necessary.  You can't pour from an empty cup.

Whether you're a mother, a mentor, or someone making space for growth and rest in your community - we see you.  We celebrate you.  We're in this together.
