The Future is Here: How to Connect with Gen Z and Beyond

Today's workforce isn't just looking for a paycheck, they're looking for growth.  They want to know how their time with you will not only contribute to your organization's success but also set them up for their own future.
Here's why this matters more than ever:
  • Record numbers of young people are starting businesses - 70% of Gen Z and 60% of millennials have considered becoming entrepreneurs, driven by autonomy and purpose.
  • Flexibility is king - 93% of employees, including younger generations, say flexibility in when and where they work is their top priority.
  • Purpose is non-negotiable - 75% of Gen Z would take a pay cut to work for a company that aligns with their values.
The pandemic accelerated changes in how we work, and it's clear that our leadership strategies must evolve just as rapidly.
The question isn't just, "How can they contribute to your organization?"
It's also, "How can you contribute to them?"
As modern leaders, that's what we're about anyway: helping others, and the next generations, succeed.  It's not just about hitting today's goals; it's about leaving a legacy that inspires and empowers.  It also happens to be very good for business.
Here are 5 key ways to rise to the occasion.

1.) Connect Values with Tangible Growth
Younger employees want to align with organizations that share their values while gaining skills that set them up for future success.  Your mission needs to be more than words - it should drive action.  And when employees see how their work aligns with that mission and how they'll grow, you create buy-in.  Create clear roadmaps:
  • Frame growth in actionable terms:
  • "In your first year, you'll learn how to lead cross-functional teams."
  • "In two years, you'll master client management and strategic thinking."

2.) Leverage Technology for Connection
This generation grew up immersed in technology.  Use this to your advantage by providing cutting-edge tools and platforms to enhance collaboration and learning.
  • Virtual mentorship programs and gamified training can create a more engaging and interactive environment.

3.) Foster Individually Over Broad Strokes
Gone are the days of one-size-fits-all engagement strategies.  Employees today value personalization: some thrive in social settings, others want a day off, and some crave mentorship or one-on-one time with senior leaders.  The key is to meet them where they are.
  • Regular check-ins help you understand individual preferences and tailor recognition, rewards and growth opportunities accordingly.

4.) Stand Up for What You Say
Credibility is everything.  If your organization promotes kindness, collaboration, or innovation, ensure those values are reflected in every level of leadership.  Don't allow toxic behavior to undermine the culture you're building.
  • When you align your actions with your values, you create trust and loyalty.

5.) Inspire Purpose with Social Impact and Development Opportunities
The next generation wants to make a differnence, and they want their work to mean something.  Highlight your sustainability initiatives, community outreach, and DEI efforts to show how your values are put into action.  Combine that with opportunities to develop leadership skills and make an impct beyond their roles, and you'll retain talent with long-term potential.
Stat Spotlight: 75% of millennials and Gen Zers are willing to take a pay cut to work for a socially responsible company.
  • Implement reverse mentorship programs where younger employees share their digital or cultural insights with senior leaders.

Closing Thought:
As modern leaders, it's our responsiblity and privilege, to empower the next generation.  When you provide clear growth plans, align your values with action, and create a culture of investment and care, you do more than engage the next generation, you inspire them to build a legacy with you.
At the end of the day, leader, it starts with you and your ability to truly connect the dots.  Your vision, your actions, and your investment in others set the tone for what's possible.  The future belongs to those who inspire, so let's make moves today that will matter tomorrow.

The Best Foods for Gut Health

We've all heard the saying, "You are what you eat," but did you know that what you eat can directly affect the health of your gut?  A healthy gut isn't just important for digestion - it's the cornerstone of overall wellness, influencing everything from your immune system to your mood.  Let's dive into some of the best foods you can add to your diet to keep your gut in check!
1.) Fermented Foods: Your Gut's Best Friend
Fermented foods are packed with probiotics, the "good" bacteria that help maintain a healthy gut flora.  These foods aid digestion, support your immune system, and may even improve your mental clarity.  Some tasty options include:
  • Kefir
  • Sauerkraut
  • Kimchi
  • Miso
2.) Prebiotic-Rich Foods: Fuel for the Good Bacteria
Prebiotics are fibers that feed the healthy bacteria already in your gut.  Including these in your diet ensures that your beneficial bacteria thrive.  Some great resources of prebiotics are:
  • Garlic
  • Onions
  • Bananas
  • Asparagus
3.) High-Fiber Foods: Keep Things Moving
A diet high in fiber is essential for gut health, as it helps keep your digestive system running smoothly.  Fiber is also great for reducing inflammation and balancing blood sugar.  Add these fiber-rich foods to your plate:
  • Whole grains (brown rice, quinoa, oats)
  • Legumes
  • Berries
4.) Bone Broth: A Soothing Gut Healer
Bone broth is rich in collagen and amino acids like glutamine, which help heal and seal the gut lining.  This is particularly beneficial if you're dealing wth issues from digestive discomfort.  Sip on warm, homemade bone broth for a soothing, gut-nourishing treat.
5.) Healthy Fats: Anti-Inflammatory Power
Healthy fats are essential for reducing inflammation and supporting your gut lining.  Foods like:
  • Avocados
  • Olive oil
  • Nuts and seeds
6.) Ginger and Turmeric: Natural Digestive Aids
Both ginger and turmeric have powerful anti-inflammatory and digestive benefits.  Ginger can help reduce bloating and nausea, while turmeric contains curcumin, a compound known for it's gut-healing properties.  Try adding fresh ginger to smoothies, or using turmeric in soups, curries, and teas.
Balance is Key
A healthy gut thrives on variety and balance.  Incorporating these gut-nourishing foods into your diet can promote better digestion, improved immunity, and even better mental well-being.  So, why not start today?  Your gut and overall health will thank you!  Stay healthy and happy eating!

At some point, the business needs you to lead differently than what got you here.
When I stepped into the President role, I thought I understood what the responsibility would require. I had spent years inside the business, starting as a retail and marketing specialist and growing through multiple leadership roles to SVP. I knew how the business worked. I knew the people. I knew how to carry responsibility. What I hadn’t fully grasped was how much I would need to change. The ...
A quick note about the Pulse
I want to share something with you about this space, about The Pulse. In a world where I’m constantly told to write shorter captions, be more edgy, create more scroll-stopping hooks, and chase attention on social media…this is not that space. And that’s intentional. I believe part of what’s happening in our businesses and on our teams right now is that we’re losing perspective in all the noise....

Hi friends, It's only two full weeks into the new year, and for many people, things already feel full. Some of that fullness is exciting and motivating.New ideas. Momentum.  Building what's next. And some of it feels like you never quite get to put things down. Not busy in the "wow, I'm getting so much done" way, but full in the too many things pulling at you at once way. The kind of full where...
