To Your September Reset

September always feels like a reset button for me.

I’m loving the cool, crisp mornings, the steam rising off the lake, and yes — the start of football season (I love the game, the spirit, and of course, the food!). There’s also the seasonal reset… swapping out summer layers for fall, making small tweaks in my space, and getting energized for what’s ahead.

It all feels like a reset.

Right now, I’ve got butcher paper taped to my office wall with my main focus written out. A mentor of mine calls it a Battle Board and I love that. Mine maps out my main activities, monthly goals, and — to the right — the big bold goals I’m chasing overall. It’s where the top priorities live so I can see them every day and stay on track.

As I stood there looking at it this week, I knew it was time for a reset.

The more action I take, the clearer the path becomes and sometimes that means realigning what’s on the board.

So this September, my reset looks like this:

1. Refresh the Battle Board → update what matters most right now.
Ask yourself: What’s one big goal I’d put on my own Battle Board this fall?

2. Refresh how I show up → small things (like swapping summer clothes for fall layers, or clearing my workspace) that help me feel more energized and dialed in stepping into the day.
Ask yourself: What’s one simple reset that would help me feel more energized walking into my week?

3. Keep up weekly reviews → a simple ritual that helps me stay steady and clear, even when the week is chaotic.
Ask yourself: What’s one question I could check in with at the end of each week to reset and realign?

And because life isn’t just about goals on the wall, I’m also refreshing how I plan my time.

I’m heading to a conference next weekend, we’re bringing in fresh guests and new wellness + business resources inside the Collective, and I’ve got a big new project in the works. That means I need to be intentional about breaks too — this week I’m scheduling in breaks, planning trips, and making sure I’m not just working hard, but living fully.

The breaks are a key part of my strategy, because I get so much more clarity and creativity from those spaces. It’s what allows me to go all in when it matters most.

I learned this the hard way — never having time to think can lead you somewhere you don’t want to be, missing the key signals around you in the business. And those signals are everything when it comes to leading well and staying ahead.

Look, it isn’t always easy or smooth. But when we get intentional with our time, that’s where the magic is. ✨

That’s the beauty of a reset, it’s not about throwing everything out, it’s about realigning and re-energizing what matters most.

👉 Inside the Collective, I’ll be sharing the exact weekly review process I use next week with our group. It’s been a game-changer for staying steady and building momentum — and if you’ve been craving a reset of your own, this might be the perfect time to step in. Join us here.

For today, I’m off to a family BBQ to soak up the holiday weekend — a reminder that recharging is part of leading too. I hope you get some time to recharge as well.

To your September reset,

Amy

Meals That Keep Your Mind Clear for Big Decisions

Leadership today demands more than vision - it requires sharp, sustained focus.  Your brain is only as clear as the fuel you give it.

We often think of food as something to "get through the day", but for leaders, it's a hidden lever of strategy.  The right meals can sharpen decision-making, reduce the dreaded afternoon fog, and support energy that actually lasts.

Here are three simple ways to eat with clarity in mind:

  1. Balance blood sugar.  Skip the carb-heavy crash meals.  Pair protein, healthy fats, and fiber to keep your energy even (think: salmon with roasted vegetables, or eggs with avocado toast).
  2. Hydrate like it matters. Dehydration - even mild - can cloud thinking.  Aim for steady hydration, not just a big glass of water when you remember.
  3. Snack for focus, not distraction.  Instead of reaching for chips at 3pm, try nuts, fruit with nut butter, or a boiled egg.  These stabilize your mood and keep your brain online for big conversations.

Pro tip: Notice how you feel after different meals this week.  Which ones support your clarity, and which ones leave you dragging?  That awareness is leadership data, too.

At Modwellship, we know strategy isn't just about frameworks and plans (although we do love those too) - it's about energy, focus, and the daily choices that shape how you show up.  Food is one of the most underestimated tools in your leadership toolkit.

Growth Eventually Demands a Different Operating System
Hi everyone, One of the things I value most about my work is having a front-row seat to the conversations business owners and senior leaders are having as they navigate growth and change. Over the past couple of weeks, three conversations have stayed with me. One leader was getting ready to leave for vacation.  Instead of feeling excited, they spent the week before trying to prepare the busines...
The opportunity is here. Here is what gets in the way.
The numbers are there. The team is solid and the business is producing and from the outside it looks like things are working. But there is a gap between what is happening and what you know is possible, and the harder you push toward it, the more that gap stays exactly where it is. In almost every conversation I have with a leader carrying that weight, the read is the same. Team problem. Market ...
The Window Is Open
I spent a weekend in the woods with a bed and a real bathroom. I love nature.  I do not love sleeping on the ground.  Glamping is what I am. My girls, my husband, fresh air, a fire, and a little room to think.   Here is what I have learned about myself over the last few years: if I do not deliberately create distance from the pace, I will keep going.  The ideas, the people I want to support, th...
