There's Nothing More Important Than Taking Your Development into Your Own Hands

Too often, leaders rely on company training programs or hope their experience will naturally prepare them for what's next.  But the truth is, those who stay ahead - those who thrive - are the ones who take control of their growth, aligning their skills with their biggest aspirations and the challenges ahead.
If you're thinking about your next level for 2025, now is the time to write your own development plan.
Here's how to do it in a way that ensures you're not just surviving but leading at your best:

The best leaders don't wait for growth - they take control of it.
Here's how to get started:

1. Define Your Vision
Where do you want to be by the end of 2025, and why is it important?
  • Write one clear statement of what success looks like.
  • Example: "By December, I'll lead my team to innovate and grow while being a trusted voice in strategy so that I get that promotion."

2. Assess Where You Are Today
Before you plan your growth, you need to know your starting point.
  • What are your biggest strengths as a leader?
  • Where have you felt stretched or struggled this year?
  • What feedback have you received about areas for improvement? - make sure you know this from your leaders.
Perform a quick SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) to uncover what's helping you and what might hold you back.

3. Define Developmental Goals That Matter
Great leaders grow with intention.  Ask yourself:
  • What skills will help me succeed at my next level?
  • What will have the greatest impact on my team and organization?
Prioritize 3-5 key goals that align with your company's needs and your personal ambitions.
Examples:
  • Strengthen strategic communication to inspire and influence.
  • Develop time managment systems to delegate more effectively.
  • Build team engagement and foster cross-generational collaboration.

4. Break Goals into Actionable Steps
Use the SMART framework (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Bound), or any framework you have found useful to building an action plan.
Example for communication skills:
  • Enroll in a course by February.
  • Practice monthly with peers.
  • Deliver a key presentation by April.

5. Build Support and Reflect
  • Seek resources: coaching, courses, feedback.
  • Schedule monthly check-ins to track progress and adjust.

The Challenge: Take one hour this week to reflect, write your plan, and commit to it.
When you take your development into your own hands, you don't just grow - you lead with purpose and stay ahead of the curve.
Let's make 2025 your year to thrive!
Warmly,
Amy

The Importance of Establishing a Good Routine for your Wellbeing

As the new year begins, many of us are filled with a sense of possibility, hoping for personal growth and new achievements.  One of the most powerful ways to set yourself up for success in the months ahead is by establishing a strong daily routine.  While it's easy to get caught up in the excitement of resolutions and goals, a consistent routine can provide the structure and support needed to achieve long-term wellbeing.
1. Routine Creates Stability and Reduces Stress
Starting the year with a well-defined routine offers a sense of stability.  Life can be unpredictable, but when you have a set structure to your day, you reduce the uncertainty that often leads to stress.  A routine helps you manage your time more effectively, ensuring that essential tasks are prioritized and completed without feeling overwhelmed.  Knowing what to expect from your day can bring you comfort.
2. Routine Allow us to Foster Healthy Habits
A good routine serves as a foundation for building healthy habits.  Whether it's exercising, eating nutritious meals, getting enough sleep, or dedicating time for relaxation, routines allow these habits to become ingrained in your lifestyle.  When practiced consistently, these habits can drastically improve your physical health, and mental clarity.
3. Routine Boosts Productivity & Motivation
Having a set routine eliminates decision fatigue, which often drains our energy.  When you know what tasks are on your plate and when to tackle them, you increase your focus and productivity.  A structured day allows you time to accomplish more in less time, leaving you with a sense of accomplishment.  Increased efficiency provides you with more space for personal growth and self-care.
4. Promotes Mental Clarity and Focus
The beginning of the new year can be a time when we feel inundated with opportunities and choices.  A routine helps cut through the noise by giving you a clear direction.  By committing to a set schedule, you can reduce distractions and stay focused on your goals.  The more organized and mindful you are of your daily activities, the more sound your decisions will be.
5. Cultivates a Sense of Achievement and Growth
As you commit to your routine and see progress in the things you're working on, there's a growing sense of achievement.  Even small victories-whether it's sticking to an exercise schedule, completing a project, or taking time to relax can build momentum and lead to increased confidence.
A good routine, especially at the start of the year, lays the groundwork for a year of growth, balance, and wellbeing.  It's more than just about accomplishing tasks - it's about fostering the habits and mindset that help you thrive in every area of your life.  As you establish your routine, remember that consistency is key.  Small, mindful changes over time can have a profound impact on your overall health and happiness.

At some point, the business needs you to lead differently than what got you here.
When I stepped into the President role, I thought I understood what the responsibility would require. I had spent years inside the business, starting as a retail and marketing specialist and growing through multiple leadership roles to SVP. I knew how the business worked. I knew the people. I knew how to carry responsibility. What I hadn’t fully grasped was how much I would need to change. The ...
A quick note about the Pulse
I want to share something with you about this space, about The Pulse. In a world where I’m constantly told to write shorter captions, be more edgy, create more scroll-stopping hooks, and chase attention on social media…this is not that space. And that’s intentional. I believe part of what’s happening in our businesses and on our teams right now is that we’re losing perspective in all the noise....
When Leadership Feels Full: How Modern Leaders Choose What Matters Most
Hi friends, It's only two full weeks into the new year, and for many people, things already feel full. Some of that fullness is exciting and motivating.New ideas. Momentum.  Building what's next. And some of it feels like you never quite get to put things down. Not busy in the "wow, I'm getting so much done" way, but full in the too many things pulling at you at once way. The kind of full where...
