Feeling the weight of leading right now? Read this.

Hi friend,

I'm late getting this newsletter out.  Usually it hits your inbox first thing every other Sunday morning but I rewrote it several times.  I edited it, messed up the formatting, Jenn helped me fix it, and I still found myself changing it again.

Why?
Because this message matters.
And I want it to land.  Not in a heavy, doom-and-gloom way, but in a way that feels true and hopeful.  Because I genuinely believe we're in a leadership crisis, and I know there's a better way forward.

It's actually why I left my executive career.  Not because leadership is broken, but because the world changed and the way we were all taught to lead didn't keep up.  And I knew if anything was going to change, someone had to build what comes next.

So let's talk about what you may already be feeling.

The Leadership Crisis We're All Sensing

If leading feels heavier these days, you're not imagining it.  Most leaders are operating inside systems built for a completely different era...and no matter how talented or committed you are, those systems quietly cap impact.

You've probably seen it:

  • conversations happening, but clarity missing

  • teams busy, but not aligned

  • decisions stalling because everyone's stretched thin

  • results taking longer even though the days are fuller

This isn't a you problem.
This is a systems problem.
And systems can be upgraded.

Why I Walked Away

After more than twenty years in leadership, I saw what the last few years did to all of us - the exhaustion, the disconnection, the quiet loss of joy.  I also saw the opportunity: leaders were craving something better.

Meaning.
Time.
Real conversations
Work that feels purposeful again.

But most companies slid back into old patterns the minute things stabilized.  And that's when it became impossible to ignore: what got us here is not what will take us into the future.

So I built Modwellship to address the cracks in communication, development, and alignment that quietly drain leaders, teams, and results.  This isn't just a leadership problem - it's a human problem showing up inside leadership systems.  And it's fixable.

The Modern Leadership Upgrade

Most leaders don't need a new work ethic; they need to upgrade their leadership operating system.

One that fits the speed, complexity, and humanity of today's world.
One that helps you lead with strength and heart - and still have something left for the rest of your life.

Modern leadership isn't about being softer or tougher; it's about being equipped.

âś…Energy - the capacity and presence to lead without burning out.
âś…Edge - the courage and awareness to evolve faster than the world around you.
âś…Execution - the clarity and follow-through that turn vision into results.

When you strengthen these three, everything changes.
Your team performs better.
Your culture stabilizes.
And you start to love your work again without losing yourself in it.

Here's what I want you to hear: this shift isn't as far away as it feels.
You can learn these skills.
You can advance how you lead.
You can feel the day again... the purpose, the momentum, the satisfaction of real progress.

And you don't have to drive yourself into the ground to get the results you're looking for.
That's the myth modern leadership replaces: the idea that harder is the only way forward.
Real results come from focus, alignment, and the energy to lead with full presence.

It starts with intention and the right kind of support.

The Modern Leadership Move of the Week

Last week, a leader said, "I'm working harder than ever, but it feels like I'm moving slower."
It's what so many leaders are feeling.

It's not a lack of effort; it's that we're still running old operating systems in a new game.

So this week, choose one of the 3 E's to strengthen:

  • Energy: Block one hour for thinking, let your mind wander and process, not react.

  • Edge: Ask yourself, "What am I doing out of habit that no longer serves me?"

  • Execution: Make one decision that's been sitting in limbo.

The Invitation

If you're reading this and thinking "That's what is happening inside my team", that is why I created this session.

Stop $100K Problems Before They Stop Your Growth

A 90-minute executive strategy session designed to help you build the leadership foundation your next stage of growth depends on.

Most 100K problems don't show up in one big issue, they accumulate quietly.

A delayed decision

A vague expecation

An overwhelmed leader

A misaligned meeting

These gaps add up in time, people and results.

And they cost far more than we realize.

In this working session, we'll uncover the silent leaks in your leadership systems - the ones draining time, trust, and profit - and design strategies that strengthen your foundation for

scale.

You'll walk away with clarity, focus, and an upgraded leadership operating system built for sustainable growth.

No pitchy energy.
Just the real strategy modern leaders need right now.

Reserve Your Seat HERE.

The Rally Cry

The old way is done.

What comes next belongs to leaders who are willing to upgrade how they lead; for themselves, their teams and the results they want to create.

Let's build what's next: stronger leaders, thriving teams, and workplaces people actually want to belong to.

PS: Know someone who's leading through this too?  Forward this to them, that's how real change spreads.

Here's to leading differently and building companies (and lives) worth belonging to.

Refilling Your Cup

The end of the year has a way of sneaking up, doesn't it?
One minute you're leading strategy sessions and wrapping prjects, and the next your calendar's filled with holiday events, family logistics, and a to-do list that somehow great a second page.

It's a season built around giving; time, energy, attention, and care.  But somewhere between the work wrap-ups and the year-end celebrations, a lot of leaders forget to fill their own cups.

Here's the truth:
You can't lead on empty.
And you can't fake fullness - not for long.

So as we move into the heart of the holiday season, consider this an invitation for refuel.  Not through the quick fixes, but through real nourishment - the kind that steadies your body and clears your mind.

Maybe it's:
A slow breakfast instead of a rushed one
A meal cooked because it feels good, not because it's fast
A shared dinner where you actually sit down and taste your food

Refilling your cup isn't self-indulgence, it's leadership maintenance.  Because when you're rested and nourished, your presence changes.  You listen differently.  You decide differently.  You lead differently.

So this week, as your day fills with lists and leftovers, pause long enough to ask:
"What truly fills me?"  and "What's just draining me?"

Choose more of the first.
Your team, your work, and your well-being will feel the difference.

At some point, the business needs you to lead differently than what got you here.
When I stepped into the President role, I thought I understood what the responsibility would require. I had spent years inside the business, starting as a retail and marketing specialist and growing through multiple leadership roles to SVP. I knew how the business worked. I knew the people. I knew how to carry responsibility. What I hadn’t fully grasped was how much I would need to change. The ...
A quick note about the Pulse
I want to share something with you about this space, about The Pulse. In a world where I’m constantly told to write shorter captions, be more edgy, create more scroll-stopping hooks, and chase attention on social media…this is not that space. And that’s intentional. I believe part of what’s happening in our businesses and on our teams right now is that we’re losing perspective in all the noise....
When Leadership Feels Full: How Modern Leaders Choose What Matters Most
Hi friends, It's only two full weeks into the new year, and for many people, things already feel full. Some of that fullness is exciting and motivating.New ideas. Momentum.  Building what's next. And some of it feels like you never quite get to put things down. Not busy in the "wow, I'm getting so much done" way, but full in the too many things pulling at you at once way. The kind of full where...
